Greetings and Welcome
It is my distinct pleasure to extend you greetings from the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated©, Sigma Omega Omega Chapter. Sigma Omega Omega proudly holds the distinction of being the first Black Greek Letter Organization chartered in Douglasville, Georgia. Our 200 members take great pride that we have been providing “Service to All Mankind” since December 29, 1990.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated© was founded in 1908 as the first sorority established by college-educated African American women. Under the leadership of our 30thInternational President and CEO, Dr. Glenda Glover, our 2018-2022 International Program Initiatives are aptly themed, “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service.” The five target areas we presently execute are as follows:
The Signature Program is #CAPSM (College Admissions Process). It is designed to assist students in their efforts to enter college by providing a hands-on approach for each step of the process—from researching colleges, preparing for standardized tests, to completing the applications and applying for scholarships.
If you are a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.© we invite you to Sorority Meeting on the second Saturday of each month at 10 am. Our meeting location is the Douglasville Conference Center. Please check the website for meeting location and/or date changes as we sometimes relocate due to special occasions. To exercise caution and protect our health during the pandemic, we are presently meeting virtually. Kindly email our Membership Chairman, Barbara Lark at firstname.lastname@example.org to obtain further details.
Ms. Latanya Boatwright is the president of The Legacy of Pearls Foundation, Inc.–the philanthropic arm of Sigma Omega Omega. Please visit our website at www.legacyofpearls.org and consider making a tax-deductible donation.
We take pride in partnering with the City of Douglasville and the Douglas County School System. Through the years, we have hosted free health and business fairs; awarded over $100,000 in scholarships; beautified local parks and schools; provided Thanksgiving meals and holiday toys to families; created a food pantry and clothing closet at a local school; provided backpacks and school supplies to students; and adopted a local street(with a sign that bears our name) that we clean quarterly–to name a few of our notable service contributions to our community. I kindly encourage you to explore our website to learn more about the incredible service our extraordinary members provide.
Thank you for visiting the website of the Sensational Sigma Omega Omega Chapter where we Exemplify Excellence through Sustainable Service.
Soaring in Sisterhood and Service,
Nia M. Brown,
